In Search of a Way

The drive at Loyola Hall
The drive at Loyola Hall

A retreat for young adults looking for help in prayer, discernment and decision-making.

The retreat offers both one to one direction and workshops on prayer and decision making. A strong element of the experience is the sense of community that is established between those taking part, both through the sharing of silence but also the other times when the retreatants can meet to relax together.

If you've watched the 'Big Silence' and want to get a taste for yourself of what it's all about, then this could be a good place to start.

One of the participants from the 2008 retreat describes her experience

'The retreat was a real gift. The most wonderful of all was to come across the teachings of St. Ignatius Loyola, which have great wisdom, humanity and heart. I have never, in the Catholic Church, come across a message that takes so seriously the subtle and wonderful movements within our hearts; that teaches how to navigate, know and discern feelings; that makes ample room for our imagination. That is probably why I always felt out of place in ‘conventional’ Catholicism! To hear that God delights in my happiness was a little like unplugging the ears of a deaf man. To be told that I can pray imaginatively felt like opening up a vast and new horizon in front of me. To experience, if only for fleeting moments, the love of God for me (me!), his pleasure in having created me, and his companionship in the silence was a little revolution. I came to Loyola Hall with lots of questions relating mainly to relationships, but also to my direction in life, some of which still need to the freedom of discernment and the wisdom of choice. But I feel as if some good seeds have been planted, and the words (and whispers) I have heard during the retreat will echo within me for long.’
